My Disability

I was born with multiple malformation syndrome with limb defect as a major feature. This basically means that I was born without hands and feet. I belong to the limb loss and limb difference community. I was 8 years old when I met someone else who had an upper limb difference. I was 17 when I met someone with lower limb difference. I spent a long time feeling alone and lost.

The Goal of this Website

I created this website so people in the limb loss and limb difference community can have a safe and supportive community. I want to use my experience to help kids adapt and navigate their own lives. What works for me might work for you. Maybe, my journey can serve as a stepping stone towards figuring out your own path.

My Background

I have dabbled in prosthetics and accessible tools my whole life. I’ve used a body-powered prosthetic arm that attaches via a strap around my other shoulder. I also had a bionic arm. This is a prosthetic with sensors that read and track the movement of my muscles and nerves. Currently, I use a passive arm prosthetic that helps me drive long distances.

  • Myoelectric Prosthetic: This prosthetic is commonly called a bionic hand. It is powered by a battery and muscle signals.
  • Body Powered Prosthetic: This prosthetic uses your body to make the hand open and close. It could use a pulley, cables, or a harness that is attached to your body.
  • Cosmetic Prosthetics: Commonly referred to as a “passive prosthetic”. It normally has one or two purposes. It can be used to look like a realistic arm which can help boost confidence. It could also be used to help you do specific tasks. For example, I use my prosthetic to grip onto the steering wheel to drive.
